The Pilgrims Restaurant

Address: Lovington, Castle Cary, Somerset  BA7 7PT
Telephone: 01963 240600
Region: Mid Somerset - more
Welcome. The Pilgrims Restaurant is owned by us, Sally and Jools Mitchison. Sally runs the place with a relaxed efficiency that ensures a warm welcome and superb service. Jools’ cooking is based simply on treating the finest local ingredients with the imagination they inspire and the respect they deserve.

Dine with us
If we say so ourselves Jools’ skill is in feeding a small number of people with simply wonderful food, in an unhurried manner, and that’s the way we try to make the restaurant run. Our dining guests come here to dine finely.

The best from the ‘Appellation of Somerset’ on a plate

Our menu is something of a moveable feast - changing at least monthly and often daily - with the seasonal availability of fresh ingredients. With the exception of the ice cream everything we serve at The Pilgrims is home-made. Virtually nothing comes ready made out of a packet. Everything is prepared and cooked by Jools with some help from Anne and occasionally Sally. Whatever you choose will be cooked to order which means that you may have to wait a little longer than we are all used to in this frenetic age. But the table is yours for the evening and although we work as quickly as we can, we assume that you would rather have something worth waiting for.

Over the years we are proud to have won many awards these include: Gold from Taste of the West twice, (and Silver once, obviously an off day), we’ve been Somerset Life’s Dining Pub of the Year, and Jools won their Chef of the Year. more information

Stay with us
We have five highly individual rooms. Beds range from old-fashioned bedsteads to a deep walnut French sleigh bed or a sumptuous contemporary leather bed, all with Egyptian cotton sheets and duvets, although blankets are available should you prefer. Pillows and duvets are anti-allergenic.

Each room is equipped with a flat screen television, DVD player, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, clock radio, touch activated bedside lamps, and internet via a hard-wired double internet/email RJ45/cat5 link (we’ll even supply a cable - the walls are too thick for reliable wifi).

Bathrooms have shaver points, robes and complimentary slippers, shampoos, lotions etc and sun tunnels bring in natural daylight.

Rooms one, two, three and four have kingsize beds and luxuriously appointed bathrooms with roll-top baths and walk-in ‘wet-room’ style showers.Room five has two single beds and a luxury bathroom with a wet-room shower but no bath. This bathroom is equipped for guests with limited mobility. more information

The Area
The small but perfectly formed town of Castle Cary and its mainline station are three and a half miles away. A selection of interesting small independent shops, the museum housed in the old market building and the old roundhouse lockup make it a pleasant place to while away an hour or two. Paddington is 1 hour 50 minutes. http://www.castle-cary.co.uk/

The ancient town of Somerton, reputedly the 7th century capital of Wessex, is about six miles in the opposite direction. It boasts some nice independent shops, an arts festival in July, an unusual old market place and other attractions to be found at ww.somerton.co.uk more information
